Lake Conroe Events & Festivals: Plan Your RV Trip Around Them

One of the best things about staying at an RV park on Lake Conroe is the access to a packed calendar of events, festivals, and activities in the surrounding area. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning regular, timing your stay around a local event can take your trip from great to unforgettable.

Here's a guide to the major events and festivals near Lake Conroe — and how to plan your RV stay around them.

Texas Renaissance Festival (October–November)

If there's one event that defines fall near Lake Conroe, it's the Texas Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission — just a short drive from Venice on the Lake.

Running on weekends from early October through late November, TRF is the largest Renaissance festival in the United States. With over 50 acres of themed villages, hundreds of artisan vendors, live jousting, stage performances, and food and drink from around the world, it's a full-day (or full-weekend) experience.

Planning tips:

  • The festival runs Saturdays and Sundays, plus some holiday Mondays
  • Each weekend has a different theme — check the schedule and pick your favorite
  • Arrive early to beat the parking rush
  • Comfortable shoes are essential — the grounds are large and mostly unpaved

Staying at Venice on the Lake during TRF season means you can attend multiple weekends without the hassle of booking hotels. It's one of the most popular reasons people plan extended fall stays at the park.

Lake Conroe Bass Fishing Tournaments

Lake Conroe is a premier bass fishing destination, and the tournament calendar reflects that. Throughout the year — but especially in spring and fall — the lake hosts local, regional, and occasionally national bass fishing tournaments.

What to expect:

  • Early morning launches from area marinas and boat ramps
  • Weigh-ins that are open to the public and fun to watch
  • A competitive but friendly atmosphere among anglers
  • Opportunities to pick up tips from serious fishermen

If you're an angler, timing your stay around a tournament weekend gives you a chance to see the lake's best spots in action. If you're not a tournament angler, the weigh-ins are still entertaining — and the fishing pressure on non-tournament days is often lighter.

Check the Texas Bass Federation and B.A.S.S. websites for the current tournament schedule on Lake Conroe.

Mardi Gras! Galveston (February–March)

A short drive south of Lake Conroe, Galveston's Mardi Gras celebration is one of the largest in the country outside of New Orleans. The event runs for two weekends in February or early March, with parades, live music, masquerade balls, and the full Mardi Gras experience on the historic Strand district.

Staying at Venice on the Lake gives you a comfortable home base for a Galveston day trip — it's about 90 minutes south on I-45. Head down for the parade, enjoy the Strand, and come back to your campsite without the hassle of finding a hotel in a packed beach town.

The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival (April)

Each April, The Woodlands — just south of Lake Conroe — hosts the Waterway Arts Festival, a juried fine arts show featuring over 200 artists from across the country. Set along the scenic Waterway in Town Center, it's one of the top outdoor art festivals in Texas.

The event is free to attend and draws tens of thousands of visitors over the two-day weekend. Live music, food vendors, and the beautiful Waterway setting make it a great outing even if you're not in the market for art.

Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival (October)

Downtown Conroe hosts the Cajun Catfish Festival each October, celebrating the area's love of catfish with live Cajun and zydeco music, cooking competitions, arts and crafts, and of course, plenty of catfish dishes.

It's a fun, laid-back local event that gives you a taste of the community spirit around Lake Conroe. The festival is held in Heritage Place Park in downtown Conroe, about 15 minutes from Venice on the Lake.

Fourth of July on Lake Conroe

Independence Day is one of the biggest events of the year on Lake Conroe. The lake comes alive with boats, fireworks, and celebrations along the shoreline. Several marinas and waterfront venues host parties, and the fireworks displays over the water are spectacular.

If you're staying at Venice on the Lake over the Fourth, you have a front-row seat to the festivities. The waterfront sites fill up fast for this holiday weekend — book well in advance if you want to be here for it.

Planning Your RV Stay Around Events

A few tips for timing your visit:

Book early for popular weekends. TRF weekends, Fourth of July, and holiday weekends fill up fast at RV parks around Lake Conroe. If you have a specific event in mind, contact us as early as possible to secure your site.

Consider a monthly stay. If you want to catch multiple events — say, several TRF weekends plus the Cajun Catfish Festival — a monthly stay is far more economical than booking individual nights. Our monthly rate gives you the flexibility to come and go as you please while having a home base at the lake.

Check local event calendars. The City of Conroe, Visit Conroe, and The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau all maintain event calendars that are updated regularly. A quick check before your trip can reveal smaller local events you might not have known about.

Allow buffer days. Arriving a day before a major event and leaving a day after gives you time to settle in, enjoy the event without rushing, and decompress before hitting the road.

Lake Conroe and the surrounding area have something going on almost every month of the year. Whether you're planning a weekend trip around a specific festival or looking for an extended stay with plenty to do, Venice on the Lake puts you right in the middle of it all.
